University Projects: A Slam Dunk

Spring is peeking around the corner (YAY!), and with it comes the madness many of us have been waiting for! The NCAA Men’s basketball Division 1 tournament starts TONIGHT with 4 teams set to take center court in Dayton, OH. (For the record, I filled out my brackets and I have the 2 final teams as North Carolina & Gonzaga. Let’s go, Tar Heels!)

As a Vermonter, it would’ve been nice to see our beloved Catamounts once again make it into the bracket, but it just didn’t happen. I’ll never forget when Coach Tom Brennan, a friend of my parents, took the Cats to the first round of the NCAA tournament back in 2005.

I vividly remember sitting in the living room of my then-apartment with my now-husband, on the edge of our seats as we watched the Cinderella story unfold….for anyone who doesn’t remember, the Cats beat Syracuse 60-57. These guys that we’d see around town, and on the court at Patrick Gym, were now local heroes; royalty even. Well deserved. I still get goosebumps as I recall that game.

OK, enough reminiscing….back to this year’s tournament: First up is the Florida Gulf Coast University Eagles [16] as they meet the Fairleigh Dickinson University Knights [16], at 6:40pm EST.

The Vanderbilt Commodores and the Wichita State Shockers are up next at 9:20pm EST. Both teams are 11 seed.

Haven’t seen the full bracket yet? You can get yours here. Mine is already filled out!

With all this talk about college basketball, it seems like the perfect time to show you some of the images we’ve received of projects at some prestigious Universities that have used our snow guards on their new roofing and re-roofing projects. Check them out….they’re all impressive, and they score big in our book!

PP125 three-pipe, powder coated with ice screens is the system used on these projects at the University. Available as 2-pipe, 3-pipe, or 2 hi-pipe systems, the PP125 is compatible with ice flags and ice screens, with a base plate that’s available in multiple sizes for customization that makes sense for your project.

Cornell University – Goldwin Smith Hall – Ithaca, NY (Cornell didn’t make the bracket this year)

Charles F. Evans Company, Inc. – Elmira, NY

Erie Materials in Binghamton, NY supplied the snow guards

A lot went into this project, including our PP325 three-pipe system in both brass with brass accessories, and stainless steel with stainless steel accessories, (pipe, end cap, end collar, coupling, ice screen).

Also installed on this project were our ASG33 in brass, as well as custom ASG33G’s in stainless steel, PD10 pad-style in copper, and PD30 pad-style in copper. Looks great!

Yale University – New Haven, CT (the 12th seed takes on Baylor on St. Patty’s Day)

Ernest Peterson, Inc. – Hartford, CT

Our PD10 pad-style snow guards were used on this project at Yale University. Pad-style snow guards add friction to a frictionless surface, preventing a sudden avalanche of ice and snow. Traditional pad-style snow guards feature our “fish head” design which provides strength and aesthetic integrity. Since our pad-style snow guards are riveted, there’s no risk of unfolding, and their low profile is the ideal snow management solution for residential and commercial applications.
